Antalya’s specialists: who to see for what
Start with the problem, not the title. Here is which kind of dentist to look for in Antalya, and where to find them in our lists.
For implants, look for an experienced implant dentist or an oral and maxillofacial surgeon; for the teeth on implants, a prosthetic dentist or prosthodontist; for gum disease, a periodontist; for a tooth you may lose, an endodontist; for crooked teeth, an orthodontist; for veneers, a dentist who focuses on aesthetic work. Our role lists name the Antalya dentists whose clinics say they do each.
Most UK patients do not need a specialist. But some do, and many more need someone who focuses on one kind of work. This article is a map: find your problem, see which kind of dentist to look for, and use our lists to find them in Antalya. For what each Turkish title means, read titles explained.
Implants: placing them
Look for: a dentist who places implants every week, or an oral and maxillofacial surgeon for complex cases.
Implant surgery is done by many kinds of dentist in Turkey, as in the UK. What matters is experience with your kind of case. A single implant in good bone is routine. Full-arch work, bone grafts, sinus lifts and zygomatic implants are not. If the scan shows limited bone, ask who will do the surgery and how often they do that exact procedure.
Our implant dentists list includes general dentists who focus on implants, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, and an implantology specialist.
Implants: the teeth on top
Look for: a prosthetic dentist or specialist prosthodontist.
The bridge or crowns on your implants decide how you look, chew and clean. Some clinics have one dentist for surgery and teeth; others pass the prosthetic stage to a prosthodontist. Read the technician who makes your teeth and see the prosthetic dentists list.
Gums and bone loss
Look for: a periodontist for advanced gum disease.
Bleeding gums, loose teeth and receding gums are signs of gum disease. It should be treated before implants or veneers, because it is also the main cause of implant problems years later. In our Antalya list, one dentist’s clinic describes them as an oral surgeon and periodontist. If your X-ray shows bone loss around teeth, ask your dentist whether a gum specialist should see you first.
A tooth you might lose
Look for: an endodontist, or a dentist experienced in root canal treatment.
Before a tooth is taken out and replaced with an implant, ask whether it could be saved with root canal treatment. A natural tooth that can be kept is usually worth keeping. Endodontists specialise in this. Our list includes endodontists at two Antalya clinics.
Crooked or crowded teeth
Look for: an orthodontist.
Veneers can hide mild crowding, but they do it by shaping teeth. For real crowding, straightening first with aligners or braces can mean less drilling later. The catch for UK patients is time: orthodontics takes months and needs regular checks, so it often makes sense to do it at home and the cosmetic work in Antalya. Our list includes orthodontists at two clinics, one of them a professor of orthodontics.
Veneers, crowns and smile design
Look for: a dentist who does aesthetic work every day.
There is no specialist title for cosmetic dentistry in Turkey. So judge cosmetic dentists by their work, their training and how they talk about keeping natural tooth. See the cosmetic dentists list.
Children
Look for: a paediatric dentist (çocuk diş hekimi). Our list includes one paediatric dentistry specialist in Antalya. Most UK families will not bring children for treatment abroad, but it is useful if a child needs care while you are there.
How to use this map
- Find your main problem above.
- Open the matching list and pick three names. Read shortlisting three dentists.
- Ask each whether your case needs anyone else, and who.
- Get every name in your written plan.
If you are not sure which problem you have, that is normal. Send an X-ray to a dentist and ask them to tell you, in writing, what they see.
When more than one kind of dentist is needed
Some cases need two or more of the dentists on this map. A common example: gum disease treated first, then implants, then crowns on the implants. Another: a tooth saved with a root canal, then a crown, next to a veneer on the tooth beside it. Ask your dentist whether your case needs anyone else, and whether they will coordinate it or you will need to book separately.
Specialists and two trips
Seeing a specialist can affect your timing. Gum treatment before implants may need weeks to settle. Orthodontics needs months. If a specialist is needed, ask whether that part could be done at home in the UK and the rest in Antalya, and how the two dentists would share information.
How to check a specialist title
If a dentist is described as a specialist, ask for the Turkish title and their training. “Uzm. Dt.” is the specialist title. Ask where they trained and in what specialty. A profile that says “specialist” in English but gives no Turkish title or training is worth asking about. Read titles explained.
Experience still counts
A specialist title shows formal training. Experience shows daily practice. A general dentist who has placed implants every week for years may be better for a routine case than a specialist who rarely does them. For difficult cases, both matter.
Our map in numbers
Across the 73 dentists in our Antalya list, the largest group are dentists whose clinics give no area of work at all, followed by cosmetic and aesthetic dentists. Implant surgeons, prosthetic dentists and other specialists are smaller groups. If you need one of those, your shortlist will be shorter, which makes careful checking easier.

Root canal treatment: worth asking about
The NHS explains that root canal treatment removes infection from inside a tooth and can save a tooth that might otherwise need to come out. Before agreeing to an extraction and implant, ask whether the tooth could be saved this way, and how likely it is to last. A natural tooth that can be kept is usually the best option, and it costs less than an implant.
Gum disease and implants
The NHS describes gum disease as a common condition that can cause bleeding gums, bad breath and, if untreated, loose teeth. Because it can also affect implants, a dentist planning implants should check your gums carefully. If your X-ray shows bone loss around several teeth, it is reasonable to ask for a periodontist’s view.
The UK specialist question
In the UK, the General Dental Council keeps specialist lists for dentists who have completed recognised specialist training. In Turkey, the specialist title is Uzm. Dt. Neither title is required for most routine treatment, but both tell you the dentist has completed formal specialist training. Read titles explained.
Specialist checklist
- I know which kind of dentist my main problem needs.
- I have asked whether anyone else should be involved.
- I know the Turkish title of any “specialist”.
- I know how a specialist stage affects my timing.
Common questions
Are there many specialist dentists in Antalya?
Some, but fewer than English websites suggest, because “Dr.” is used for every dentist. In our list, only a small number carry a specialist title or a specialist role.
Do I need a specialist for implants?
Not always. Many experienced general dentists place implants. A surgeon is worth asking about for bone grafts, sinus lifts or difficult cases.
Is there a specialist for veneers?
No. Turkey has no cosmetic dentistry specialty. Look for a dentist who does aesthetic work every day, and ask to see their cases.
Can a general dentist treat gum disease?
Mild gum disease, yes. For advanced gum disease or bone loss around teeth, ask whether a periodontist should see you.
