Your first consultation in Antalya
Day one is when the plan you were sent becomes the plan you will have. Here is what should happen, and what to check before anything starts.
At the first appointment your dentist examines your mouth, takes a 3D (CBCT) scan and X-rays, and confirms or changes the plan you were sent. You should get the final plan and price in writing, and the chance to ask questions, before any treatment starts. Ask what changed and why.
Before you walk in
Bring the plan you were sent by email or WhatsApp, a written list of every medicine you take, and any recent X-rays from your UK dentist. If you have a companion, bring them into the consultation. Two people remember more than one.
1. Your medical history
The dentist or a nurse goes through your health and medicines. This matters: blood thinners, diabetes, osteoporosis medicines and smoking all change how a dentist plans implant treatment. Be complete, even if something seems unrelated. Read health conditions to tell your dentist.
2. The scan and X-rays
For implants you will usually have a CBCT scan, a 3D X-ray that shows the height and width of your jawbone, the nerves and the sinuses. For veneers and crowns, the dentist may take a digital scan of your teeth and photographs of your smile. These take minutes.
3. The examination
Your dentist looks at your teeth, gums, bite and any existing crowns or bridges. They should explain what they see as they go, and show you the scan on a screen.
4. The final plan
Now the dentist confirms the plan. Sometimes it is exactly what you were sent. Sometimes the scan shows that a tooth can be saved, that more bone is needed, or that fewer implants will do. Either way, ask:
- What has changed from the plan I was sent, and why?
- Can you show me on the scan?
- What happens to the price?
- Who will do each stage?
- What are the alternatives, including doing less?
5. Consent
Before treatment starts, you sign a consent form. It should list the treatment, the risks and the alternatives, in a language you understand. Do not sign anything you have not read. Read what your dentist must explain.
At Precious Dental
Full-arch cases at Precious Dental are planned from a 3D scan, and you are told in writing how many implants you need, which brand and why. Where a healthy tooth can be kept, we prefer to keep it rather than cover it. If the scan changes your plan, your dentist shows you why before anything starts.
If you are not happy
You can stop at this point. You are not obliged to start treatment because you have travelled. If the plan has changed in a way you do not understand, ask for time, ask for the reasons in writing, or ask for a second opinion. A good dentist will not mind.
Common questions
How long is the first appointment?
Usually one to two hours, including the scan, the examination and talking through the plan.
Can the plan change on the first day?
Yes. A plan made from photos or an old X-ray is provisional. The 3D scan can show more or less bone than expected. Ask the dentist to show you why.
Does treatment start on the same day?
Sometimes, for example extractions or tooth preparation for veneers. You should still have time to read the final plan and ask questions first.
What should I bring?
Your passport, a list of your medicines, any recent X-rays, and the plan you were sent so you can compare.
